Ideas behind Writing

It all began since time immemorial, when human beings felt that sharing a thought with someone was as necessary as possessing it. Thus, there came up symbols, words, and punctuations, all of which contributed to the development of what we presently call a 'language'.
Technically, the development of language (and therefore consequently writing) was the first step in the development of education and communication. The people dwelling in the past took hold of the best thing they could use for writing. It was not a pen, but a stone. And walls and caves served the purpose of the paper. Essential information, found suitable of transferring to next generation was engraved with great efforts. This was for the first time a man had learnt to make his name immortal.
Gradually these readings (essentially pictures, as it was easy to engrave what the people had seen rather than finding a specific word for it) came to be studied and interpreted by people at different places and different time. Thus, arose a diversity in the language culture. So, arose the trend where in every great man used to have text about him, either self written or as a biogarphy. Such texts are still one of the most reliable source of information we can boast of our historical icons. Thanks to this idea of writing and documenting, that added so much of simplicity and sophistication to our lives.

Art, as they say, is affected by anybody who follows it. And thus the ideas changed once more with the advent of the ideas of scriptures. These were supposed to be the true works of god, wherein thinking about a mistake was a mistake in itself. And, these 'divine' texts were to tell human beings the way they should live life, in order for god to like it. Again, the ideas of maintaining a balanced society, with civilized people were tried to be given shape by the use of the written word.
And then came the golden time of writing when it was used as a means of entertainment, and not that of duty or educational 'burden'. Here, writing was on the rise. The centuries considered are about the late 16th, Early 17th ones. People, in Europe, had begun to lose faith in the predictions made by the Catholic Church. The ideas traveled by the new words. It was during this time that great writers, are revolutionaries began to write. With the advent of the printing press, these writings found a huge audience. Practically everyone who could read, wanted to read these papers. And those who could not read, wanted to read.
Even today we write. We 'sms' our friends. We present answers and thesis. But presently, writing is not seen as a very popular means of expressing oneself. It has lost in this regard to music, photography, movies, painting etc.  However, these things would have never developed if there was no writing. It is because of writing that the human mind came to assign names to the things around, and consequently made so much of progress.
Basically, it is an idea of orderliness of thoughts and actions, that promotes writing and guarantees it 'immortality'.
