In this era of neck throttling competition, it is quite obvious to expect that there has to be a specialization in one field with simultaneous incomplete dependence on it. In cases when the working principle fails for us, we need to have something to support us till the time we repair our working principles, and it is only the specialization in the working principles that will let us survive in the market.
Undergrad days in college are the times when one can feel all of this so closely and clearly. There is definitely a pressure on the minds of students who are trying for intern and placements. And if you are in a somewhat elite college, like that of mine, there are people outside who have developed expectations from you using their own system of analysis.
Almost everyone will agree that engineering is all about studying before the exam. It is more about arranging answers than obtaining them. But when we hear words like CV, Group Discussions, Interviews, there is a sudden alarm that awakens us. And suddenly we realize that we should be doing all those things for which we had mocked the people who were actually doing it. We have to be updated with news from around the world, and be imaginary and practical at the same time. There must be command over one's own subject along with extra stuff like co-curricular activities.
Education today is not just about having the technical or the working background. It is about actually making it work. It is about getting patents and copyrights for the original work a person has done. It is about all those times we spend thinking that something might strike us which might hit textbooks. It is about those opportunities which allows us to meet people of different nationality, backgrounds etc. Education is about reaping the global leader, and everyone has a part to contribute in it
